Now that all the heroes are present, ive started them all in earnest.. Ive got different versions of the same character class in case folk want to be able to play multiple characters, or take a whole group of barbarians!

A friend of mine wanted a set of 6 slaaneshi themed objectives.. The only requirements were the basic colours, the guitar dude as the focus & the words on the banner.

These are what I came up with!

Warhammer quest WIP: Minotaurs!

 

Its been a while since ive been able to focus on my warhammer quest set.. I figured that the 40K WarZone Hobbyist paint comp would be a perfect opportunity to slap down some paint!

Turns out I came in first place.. by 1 point!

There were some dam fine entries, be sure to swing by & check them all out.

Nurgle Daemons win best painted at Emperor's Legion 2014!

 

I recently took my pure Nurgle Daemons to the Emperor's Legion tourney at Tin Soldier in Penrith.

It was a great event with a solid turnout. Lots of great games were had by all!

 

Highlight for me though, was winning best painted!

 

 

 

So, here they are in all their revolting glory!

 

 

 

Epidemius.

I used this guy as a great unclean one.

Borrowed this guy from my good mate Luke from Sound of Machines commission painting.

Im not a fan of this model.. but it was a lot of fun to paint & they are great on the table.

I needed one for a tourney, so I built & painted this guy.

Took me 3 days, start to finish.
Wings & base are removable for transport.

 

Problem is, it doesn't fit the theme for the rest of my army (I have other plans for counts helldrakes.. but they are on the backburner).

That means im going to sell this one. If anyone is interested in buying it, get in touch via the comments & we can work something out.

Otherwise, its going to ebay!

 

 

 

This is the first mini that I plan to sell painted.. keep your eyes peeled for more in the future!

Hobby tips: Take better pics, easily!

 

 

Looks like crap right?

 

Something that I see time and again, is people who put a lot of effort into their painting, but who cant do justice to their work when taking photos.

 

That's fair enough. If you wanted to be a photographer, you'd have started that as your hobby instead. But rest assured, there are some simple steps that will dramatically improve the quality of the photos you take!

 

 

First up, the tools you'll need:

 

All you need is some blue tac, a paint brush or similar, a piece of plain paper (grey is a good colour as its not too dark or too bright) & somewhere with some decent indirect light.

Note: the tripod is optional. 

 

A separate note on lighting: avoid warm or frosted lamps as they will change how the colours of your mini show up.

Get some clear light blubs & point the lamps directly up rather than at your mini.

I use $5 lamps from a discount store with $2 bulbs from the supermarket. I have one set up either side of my desk. Its also worth noting that all these photos were taken at night..

 

 

 

Next, setup: 

 

Blue tac your piece of paper to a wall as shown above.

Put another wad of blue tac underneath the paper & stick your hobby tool in it (this helps get the angle of your mini right for the pic).

 

 

Place you mini so its in the middle of the paper, above the tool (it should be on a bit of an angle).

 

 

Lastly, take the shot:

 

Get in close.

Real close.

Keep your camera steady (if you are not using a stand, try putting the camera on a flat surface in front of the mini, or balance it on a paint pot, spay can lid etc.)

Note: be careful your shot only includes mini & background. This helps to ensure that the camera has the white balance & focus correct by reducing the amount of things in the photo.

 

 

That's it!

Cameras these days (even the one in your phone) are so good, that they will do the majority of the work for you if you just give them something decent to work with.

 

Now, go on & take some good photos!

WIP: BFG imperial fleet

I recently found my old BFG fleet that had been languishing under my mums house for eons.. figured, since im between jobs for 2 weeks, I ought to do something constructive.

This is basically a rescue job. At this stage, ive stripped the crappy mismatched paint job from them,  broken them all back down to the original parts, chipped off the caked on glue, replaced any missing parts with bits I cast myself or scratch built, rebuilt them & based all the metal models using metal rods (because fuck those stupid plastic sticks!). 

This whole fleet will be for sale once ive finished painting it!

There is also a decent space marine element to this fleet.

Since these pics were snapped, ive almost finished painting the whole fleet!

The SM are Imperial fists & the imperial ships are an attached navy fleet who have been given the honour of being able to bear the Imperial fist\ colours.

I am currently building a set of bases for them.. soon they'll be ready to paint up!

Absolutely loved this game when I was younger.. cant wait to play it again!

Ive never tried this reviewing thing before, but I decided it was kind of selfish not to since I buy so many dam minis!

A fellow blogger, & mini painter/builder extraordinaire, that I have been following for some time (who honestly makes my work look like a kings cross footpath at 4am), John from http://thepaintingbunker.com, recently launched a new product.. 'proper' storm shields!

Id been looking for something like this for a long time to polish off a little project id been sitting on, so

with much excitement, I ordered a set within hours of them being announced.. 

All quiet on the eastern front..

So ive been pretty quiet lately.. not because ive not been painting, but because ive been painting too much!
(& not working which was the place where I normally found time to blog!)

I also went & got my first tattoo (see above)..

Anyway, I figured I should post a few pics up of what ive been doing..

I threw these bunch together for Cryx cup last weekend.. where I earnt the nice guy award for running CSM without any helldrakes.
A mix of repair, repaint & new models.. smashed them out in 3 days!

I also managed to track down some particularly fine pieces to paint.. Real collectors items!
But im going to sit on them for a little while.. sorry to tease!

Ive order a pile of bases from secret weapon for a project that will happen a bit later in the year.. but since I know thier stuff is great, I figured I ought to do a little review for those who arent so sure!

Lastly, Im working on a little side project ive been keeping in the wings until yesterday.. my true scale space wolves!
I found the last part I needed yesterday & its now in the mail!
Expect these guys to be happening soon!
